How did your apprenticeship help you within your role at HUC?
SW My course really helped me to develop new skills that aided not just myself but the wider team. It has given me an improved understanding of external factors that could impact our services. The last few years post Covid have been uncertain and strange. This course has taught me to look for opportunities, plan ahead and find innovative ways to benefit the organisation. I have also gained insight into the importance of social value and of the ecological issues that organisations face. I now consider this when making decisions and carrying out my duties.
What did you enjoy about your apprenticeship?
SW As a neurodivergent person I need a clear course structure. This course has been designed to be just that. The modules are challenging but it’s really satisfying completing them and passing the end-of-topic exams. I studied remotely with a class of individuals who are working in a huge range of sectors. I was the only one in healthcare but it meant that I gained from everyone’s knowledge and experience.
Would you recommend an apprenticeship to other HUC colleagues and why?
SW I would absolutely recommend this course to anyone whose duties involve the procurement function. It has definitely made me see things from different perspectives and how I can improve my role while assisting the wider organisation. It’s really convenient as the course is part-time and the exams can be taken remotely at home if required. It was easy to fit in with work and family commitments. The trainers at APA are insightful and have a vast amount of experience. They are also very consistent and offer a lot of one-to-one support.
