APA strengthens inclusive practice through Neurodiverse Training

21 September 2026

APA is pleased to share that our team has received specialist neurodiversity training from Neurodiverse Training, a neurodiversity training organisation founded and led by neurodivergent people. The training has helped strengthen our understanding of neurodiversity, workplace inclusion and the practical steps organisations can take to better support neurodivergent colleagues, clients and communities.

Neurodiverse Training delivers practical, lived-experience-led training for healthcare professionals, employers, schools and organisations. Their approach focuses on real-world change: helping teams recognise barriers, improve communication, make reasonable adjustments and create environments where neurodivergent people can thrive.

Why this matters to APA

As an organisation, APA wants inclusion to be embedded in everyday practice, not treated as an add-on. The training has given our team a stronger shared language around neurodiversity and a deeper awareness of the different ways people may experience communication, sensory environments, workload, change and collaboration.

By learning directly from neurodivergent trainers, APA has benefited from insight grounded in lived experience as well as professional expertise. That perspective is helping us reflect on how we design our services, communicate with others and make our own working culture more accessible and supportive.

What the training covered

The session explored how neurodiversity can shape people’s strengths, needs and experiences. Key themes included inclusive communication, reducing unnecessary barriers, understanding sensory differences, making practical adjustments and recognising that support should be person-centred rather than one-size-fits-all.

The learning is already informing the way we think about accessibility and inclusion. It has reinforced the importance of listening, avoiding assumptions and being proactive in creating conditions where everyone can contribute at their best.
